Bathroom Faucet Leaking? What You Need To Do

Posted on

If your bathroom faucet is leaking, you should get this repaired right away. Waiting is only going to lead to other issues for you and will cost you even more money to repair in the long run. Read on for tips to help you repair your bathroom faucet.

What You'll Need:

  • Pipe wrench
  • Screwdriver (Phillips and flathead)
  • Towels
  • Bucket

How To Get The Job Done:

  1. If your faucet is leaking from the faucet head itself, make sure the faucet is turned off all the way. If it is, check the handles to see if they are loose. Tighten the handles by removing the cover and using the screwdriver to tighten the handles.
  2. If the handles are tight already, then you're going to need to turn off the water and remove the handle assembly to be sure the assembly doesn't have a worn-out washer or valve stem.
  3. Remove the entire handle assembly using the tools you have on hand, and inspect the washer and valve stem. If either is broken or appears to be worn out, you're going to need to replace these parts with new ones. Take your old parts to the hardware store to ensure you get the right replacement parts. Be sure to also remove the assembly on the other handle (if you have a two-handled faucet), as the other side is probably worn out as well. It's best to replace all of this at the same time to prevent you having to do this job all over again.
  4. Replace the parts with the new ones you purchased and replace the rest of the handle assembly. Tighten the screws that hold the handle in place, then replace the decorative handle cover. Repeat this process on the other side.
  5. Turn the water back on and test the faucet. If your faucet is still leaking, you may need to replace the entire faucet, as there may be more issues going on with your faucet.

The above-mentioned repair tips can help fix a leak that is coming from the handles themselves as well.
