3 Signs That Your AC System Needs Maintenance

Posted on

If you are like most homeowners in America, you have an air conditioning system that keeps your house cool. There are many people who don't understand how the system works, and then as the system begins to have problems they don't recognize the warning signs until the system is completely out of commission. Luckily, there are warning signs that you should be looking for that can tell you that you need to service the system. Here are some things you should know.

1. Uneven Temperature Throughout The House

One thing that every homeowner should be paying attention to is the temperature throughout the house. Generally speaking, the temperature should be constant. The only exception is that there will be a small discrepancy between floors. For instance, the upper floor is likely to be a couple degrees warmer, simply because heat rises. But even then it shouldn't be a huge difference. And there should never be a large discrepancy in temperature from one room to the next. If one bedroom is hot, and the other right next to it is cold, it means that there is a problem with your AC system or even the ducts. This should be looked at right away.

2. The System Is Making Noises

Another sign that your AC has a problem is that it is making noises. Your system doesn't have to be totally silent, there are times when the system will make the sound of air blowing throughout the house, but it shouldn't have a clanking, banging, or a whistling sound. All of these signs are indicative of a larger problem and need to be addressed. If you can't get a repair man to your house right away, you may want to consider turning off the system until the can get there.

3. Your System Hasn't Been Serviced For A Long Time

Most companies recommend doing an annual tune-up. Too many people don't do the tune-up because they are worried about spending money. They might think it is cheaper to just wait and  until the system has problems to bring someone in. The concern is that a repairman can prevent expensive problems at the tune-up and in the long-run it will save you more money if you keep the system maintained. This is why you should have a standing appointment, every year, for a annual maintenance on the system.

These are just a couple signs that your AC system needs repairing.
